“Silence is a lesson learned through life’s many sufferings.”

Seneca

Many times we say something and immediately regret it. Sometimes the things we say come from a place of hate, from a place of hurt and then they come back and haunt you. And the worst part is that most of the times we don’t know why we say the things we said.

Why do we say them then? Are we trying to look smart? Are we trying to win an argument with no basis whatsoever?

I think we must choose silence over most things. That includes keeping your mouth shut, instead of trying to win an argument on social media. We should think what are we going to say, and not react by impulse.

If we actually take the time to keep silent, we might actually learn to listen. And if we learn to listen, we might understand and read between the lines.

“I’ve begun to realize that you can listen to silence and learn from it. It has a quality and a dimension all its own.”

Chaim Potok

Silence is one of the great arts of conversation.
